The Regional Observatory on VAWG

The Regional Observatory on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is an independent civil society mechanism aims essentially to follow up on the implementation of the 4th Union for Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Declaration on strengthening the role of Women in Society, particularly in the area of VAWG, Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE).

The 2021 Regional Index on VAWG

The index provides a global documentation on laws, public policies and services related to VAWG and WPS and the alignment with international law and women´s rights instruments. 7 countries are covered by the index which are: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia.

The legislative portal is developed to provide access to constitutions, national laws and public policies that are relevant to women rights and gender equality. It also includes the international agreements that are signed and ratified by the studied South Mediterranean countries.  you can find: law of family rights, laws that are specific for eliminating Violence against Women, penal code, personal status law, nationality law, family code, labour law, the anti-trafficking law.

The database is updated biannually, in line with legislative changes in each country.
