Launching of a Study on VAWG in Syria and Mapping of Available Services
On Thursday, June 27, 2024 EuroMed Feminist Initiative (EFI) and the Regional Observatory on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) hosted an online event to launch two significant publications aimed at combating VAWG in Syria. The event marked the release of the study on "Violence Against Women and Girls in Syria: Laws, Knowledge, Awareness, Attitudes" and the "Mapping of Available Services for Victims of VAWG in Syria".

The study aimed at assessing laws, knowledge, awareness, and attitudes on VAWG in Syria and shedding light on the state of policies and services to combat it. The mapping of services aimed to pinpoint the available services for women and girls, victims of VAWG or at risk of VAWG in Syria, ranging from safe places for women, psychosocial support, social or peer support for victims of VAWG, legal services, health services. The studies were made in the framework of the program "Implementing the Common Agenda to Combat VAWG and Promote Inclusive Peace Guiding Processes in Syria" (2022-2025) funded by the European Union, and implemented by EuroMed Feminist Initiative, Dawlaty, Musawa and Zoom In.

The researchers presented the findings and detailed data on women's experiences and perceptions of VAWG in Syria, as well as recommendations to diverse stakeholders and underscored the importance of continued advocacy and policy implementation to combat violence and support victims effectively. They also underscored the crucial role of cooperation among various stakeholders dealing with VAWG.

This event provided a platform for engaging local and international actors, policymakers, civil society organizations, and researchers in meaningful discussions. By fostering open communication and collaboration, the launch facilitated a deeper understanding of the challenges and needs related to VAWG in Syria. It also encouraged the sharing of best practices and strategies to combat this pervasive issue. Participants emphasized that such studies are essential for developing comprehensive and effective solutions that are informed by diverse perspectives and experiences, ultimately contributing to the creation of a safer and more supportive environment for women and girls in Syria.
